Buy one of these, note that the movies you are watching were not made in 16:9 and the correct aspect ratio either needs cropping from the sides or bands top and bottom, or adjust your TV to make everyone look tall and thin. Don't forget to adjust it back afterwards.

If sky are showing them in the correct format, you should have borders top and bottom. Cinema is wider than a 16:9 screen.

If you fix it you'll either have everyone looking stretched, or miss quite a lot of the edges of the screen.

Problem with the Philips super-wide TV of course is that the OP would presumably be complining about the black bands left and right on most program content.

Make sure your set up correctly first, make sure the Sky is set to output 16:9, also that your TV is switched to 16:9, when you have that done you will view 16:9 when avaialble and a stretches 4:3 when only 4:3 is available.
If you dont like the black bars on the movie channels this is caused by then movie being recorded in a wider aspect to 16:9 this is normal. If you dont like it there is a button on your TV remote to bodge it, it will be albelled up as 'Aspect', you need to select 'Super Zoom' or 'Movie expand' or something similar this is something you will need to do when required it will not do it automatically then you will have to switch back to 16:9 when done.
Also You could buy the philips set or just warp time and space around your current TV to make the picture fit wink
