I'll replace our 20 year old Sony CRT next week. Don't have a huge budget, and for our money the nicest pictures I've seen have been on Panasonic plasma screens. Preferred size = 42". But now the confusion starts... shops seem to sell a subtle blend of slightly different models all at similar prices. Trying to figure out which is best. For example TXP42G10E & TXP42S10E are available at similar prices. As far as I can tell the main difference is that one is 400hz and one is 600hz.

Frankly I can't notice the difference whilst watching them in the store. Anyone care to enlighten me? If there's not much in it I'll get a deal on the 400hz model and use the spare cash towards something to stand/hang it on...

We had a new 40" Samsung LCD last September as an upgrade to our 4 year old Toshiba 32" LCD. It was only about £400 but the difference in quality was marked. The Tosh was about £1300 !

However I kind of wish I had waited now for the 3d TV's. I was sold after seeing Avatar.

Trouble is I'm now stuck with this TV for the next 10 years or until it breaks..... SWMBO has spoken ... cry

I'm far from any expert, but, I'm lead to believe the difference is notable in faster moving (action/sports) programs and films etc. I don't doubt there's more to it than that but there's my angle on it. BTW i went for the 600.

The G10 gets the newer NeoPDP display.

It's a newer generation panel and IMO well worth the extra over the S10s and below.

Thanks folks. Wasn't really able to check out any fast moving stuff in the shop (unless "Everybody loves Raymond" counts rolleyes). I think I'll hand over the extra for the newer model.

Had a spanner thrown into the works now though. They'll sell me an older generation 50" Panasonic plasma (TXP50C10Y) for even less. It's tempting, even though the extra 8" may be a little too much for us to cram in....

The newer panel (G/V/Z) really is worth the extra over the S.

Then again, next years models are out rather soon and promise to be frankly spectacular.

The C10 is a very basic model, so basic in fact that panasonic dont even have it listed on their website.

The G also has a Freesat HD tuner built in.
