Grrrr - Just put tiny chip in Sony 40" TV screen
Discussion
So annoyed with myself. Just hit the TV screen by accident with the corner of a USB lead and have put a tiny (4 pixel) chip in the screen.
TV is a Sony KDL 40 V3000, about 2 1/2 years old.
Have scoured the web and AV Forums but can't really find an answer. Is it a new screen job or is there a 'chips away' type outfit who can fix it? It's showing white light through the chip, which only shows when the image on screen is dark. It's miniscule but I just know it will really piss me off.
All the responses I've found so far for things like this are either a) "It'll cost as much as a new TV to replace the screen" b) "you can't repair it" and c) "put vaseline in the chip" (no, really! and yes, I tried it, no, it didn't work)
Help!

We had a similar situation last year, 40" Samsung taken off the wall and placed somewhere safe while we decorated. Obviously it fell over when we were moving other stuff and the surround cracked. We claimed on the insurance and put the damaged set on Ebay (insurers OK with this). Made a surprising amount of money on the damaged set...

Do you have home contents insurance with accidental damage cover?
Worth considering your excess, likely replacement value and loading of insurance for next year after claim.
The thing is, it's so tiny that claiming isn't really worthwhile - I'm not one for claiming for any old thing - if it was smashed or blew up, maybe, but not for something this small. Plus paying the excess, the load it might put on next years' policy etc - as you say, not really worth it. I was planning to upgrade this year anyway as the set is coming up to 3 years old and I'd like to get a 200hz set, it's just a shame that this one got a chip in it. Cheers.Worth considering your excess, likely replacement value and loading of insurance for next year after claim.
