Hi All,

Im after a little advice as I have already bought something that doesnt fit my needs.

What im after is an amp/decoder that i can run an optical cable from my media streamer (sumvision MKV V2) and have to output surround sound in DTS.

I purchased a Panasonic all in one DVD which said it had optical input and supported DTS. After getting home and wiring it all up, putting up brackets etc I find it does not support DTS when input through optical only when playing a DVD. I can change the media player to down mix the audio but then it only changes it to a 2ch stereo signal.

So does anyone know a reasonable amp/speaker package that wont cost the earth and is able to decode all the latest DTS etc.

Budget?

As far as I can tell your box has hdmi so I'd use that to connect to an AV amp to get the surround (I assume you are streaming DVD rips or AVI's from the media server).

Something like this (+ speakers)

Thanks. That does look good alhough after looking on richersounds i quite liked the look of a Yamaha one on there for not much more. I think you are right and probably worth taking the Panasonic back to the shop and paying the restocking fee.

Its a bit annoying that I didnt find out that it wouldnt decode dts through the optical until i saw it noted at the back of the manual frown

Probably a bit late now, but most decent manufacturers allow you to download their manuals in PDF format. I got sick of similar 'gotchas' after buying kit then realising some thing didn't work as I'd expected. The added benefit is that having manuals on my PC is that I always know where to find them if I need to check something. It's surprising what is often hidden away on the back of the manual that the salesman doesn't tell you about. wink
