stopped in a couple of hotels recently where a cuved piece of wood is affixed to the wall behind the TV and the curve wraps around at the sides to stop it looking a mess, thinking about something similar for the bedroom - anybody know where to look?

Do you mean a picture frame of sorts?

A lot of hotel furniture is custom made, I had a summer jobs years back at a company that made a lot of it.

its simpler than that imagine a big piece of paper stuck horizontally on the wall with the ends curled up

the curved ends effectively tidy up the tv from the sides by hiding the wiring, bracket, sides of tv etc

clever bit of design as it means you dont need the cheapest thinnest tv

Shame there's no pics you can post.

Those HD Envy frames look smart but I'll bet they're pricey yes

should have taken one in the hotel room, its just a neat way of making even a cheapish screen look ok on the wall when you approach / walk past it. as standard they just look like a messy box...

If you're handy you could make your own using some of this http://www.lathamtimber.co.uk/ProductDetail.415.ht...

I'm sure I've seen this stuff or something similar in my local B&Q.
