It might force Sky and Virgin to re-evaluate their pricing though, which can only be a good thing.

Really? Not £75 for the box (which I believe stays their property), and £5 extra per month unless you have the XL tv package.

Really? Not £75 for the box (which I believe stays their property), and £5 extra per month unless you have the XL tv package.

That is the charge for the PVR functionality. There is no charge for the HD channels. That may (probably will) change when if more HD channels are added.

The £75 is an install charge, not a purchase charge.

I suppose it's how you look at it; you can't have one without the other, and I don't want the PVR functionality. So if I want to upgrade my box and service to soley get HD, I'll have top give them more money. Ho hum.

Virgin have released (for trial users) a " HD Standard Box". No news on when it will roll out fully though, nor whether there will be a charge.

I believe they can't charge for BBC HD, "thanks to the unique way the BBC is funded". Other HD channels may be chargeable, I guess.

Sorry for going off topic, the sentiment posted of making VM think about how (if) it should start to charge for HD is a good one, based on the availability of Freesat HD and soon Freeview HD.
