I'm looking for a 32" Tv for our conservatory. It'll mainly be used for Xbox/Wii so doesn't need to be all singing and dancing. Hoping to spend around £250 but that just seems to bring up names I've never heard of.

Recommendations welcomed.

Cheap or value for money? You should be looking to spend more like £400 in all honesty though.

If it is used for Wii and an xBox 360 then it kinda' does have to be all singing, all dancing. As in, I would look for a 1080p model for the gaming and perhaps a 100Hz model to reduce motion blur; this is unlikely with your bidget though.

I personally would go for this Toshiba if you don't want to spend much, though. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Toshiba-32AV615DB-32-inch-...

£250 is pushing it for a 32". You could try this for £265 - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/190155

I don't have personal experience but it has good reviews.

Eh? And why would a Wii need an all singing 1080p set? What does a Wii output exactly?

If you're sitting the correct distance away from the set then the few native 1080p games on the XBox will look no worse on a 768 screen.

Also, more often than not, the picture from complicated HD sources will look better with the 100Hz switched off, so I don't think there is any benefit for this either.

For me, the only real feature of a set that will benefit you is the response time. At the budget level, LG's seem the best for this. But I have to say, stick to the recognised names when making your choice.

Agreed. My 11 year old won't be to bothered about 'motion blur'!

You've raised my dilemma though. I've seen 32" at around the £250 mark, but names I've never heard of. I would prefer to go for an established name, but keep getting the argument that 'they're the same inside' (at this price) thrown at me.

If that were true, we'd all be buying them. Well, those of us who don't care what the Jones' think! biggrin

The picture quality on the supermarket brands aren't as good that's for sure, but then the argument for your bairn caring or noticing is another matter. However, my Dad always said, "buy cheap, buy twice". That's not knocking your budget though you understand, but for another thirty or fifty quid you might just be getting something that will last you a lot longer regardless of the picture quality argument.

I spent £319 on a 32" telly at the end of the year. This one, using a combination of Richer Sounds and John Lewis, I managed to get my local M&S to sell it to me at the Richer Sounds price with their 5 year warranty because I couldn't get to my nearest John Lewis or Richer Sounds store easily....! Did help that I was buying 2 though because a mate was buying at the same time. Don't know how it will behave with the xbox yet but will let you know in 10 days if you're interested woohoobiggrin

Does it have to be new?

Could have a look in the AVForums classifieds - usually some good deals to be had....

I'd pay an extra £9 for 4 years warranty any day wink

Have you actually heard one, or are you just assuming it's crap because it's a Samsung? rolleyes

No, I'm that "professional" who works for Currys. I sell about four or five of them a week.

(Let's wait for the cavalry to arrive, and have a rant about how retarded/stupid I am/Currys is.)

To be fair, he's correct with that one.

Having said that, none are amazing; these flat tv's simply have to be given some external assistance to enjoy them properly.

I haven't got much to compare it to, but I find it fine when it's not plugged into my surround sound. According to reviews, it's not as bad as the Samsung name suggests though.....but either way, for a cheap 32" telly, you're not going to get everything you want!! smile
