New Sky Viewing Card

My very old Sky digibox keeps telling me to get a new card to watch Ch5.

What's the story here?

It costs 20 quid or more to get a new card and I gave Sky several 100 quid several years ago when I was a subscriber.

Now I own the box I don't see why I should pay them any more.

Can I buy a box that will be able to use the dish and won't try to screw me out of more money every few years?

You could buy a freesat box, but that would be a lot more than shoving £20 to Sky.

Turn the TV off every 29 seconds?

Get Freesat, it runs off a sky dish so all you need is the set-top box.
