Have a Pioneer PDS703 (yes I know how old that is) and was wondering if it is worth getting a dac to go with it. Or would I be better off investing in a new CD player? Don't want to spend big bucks as I use the Rega turntable more.

Any help appreciated.

From memory, that must be one of the stable platter mechanism Pioneer CD players. They are reputedly very good transports, so a DAC isn't a bad idea. If you were to buy a new CD player then, personally, I think you'd be mad; the transport is likely to be a generic DVD mech even in quite expensive players, and what is its likely useful lifespan?

Getting a good DAC means you can feed it with music from any sort of source - hard drive, streamer etc - as CDs become harder to get hold of over the next few years.

Thanks guys. That's pretty much what I thought. And yes it does have the stable platter mechanism. It has served me very well over the years and I don't want to ditch it for the sake of it.

Will check out the Cambridge Audio dac, are there any other suggestions?

Thanks again.
