Any updates on this? I know that the signal was switched on in December, but when is there going to be any kind of formal roll out?

Any idea on when Humax will have their hardware out too?

Well that pisses me off. Having had FreesatHD intalled at Christmas - what a misnomer that was only 1 HD channel and the odd bit of red button HD content on ITV1.

It's really that poor?

Freeview HD with 5 or 6 channels bodes quite well then.

The highlight is the Horror Zone, which shows the worst B movie "horror" (If you can call them horror) I've ever seen. I've never laughed so much. Watching someone trying to fight off a giant rubber Trilobite, in a blatant rip-off of The Thing was a particular highlight.

Other than that, it really is that poor. I've lost Dave amd Virgin FFS.

Will the new freeview channels be available with a Sky HD box or is it going to be a case of having to purchase a new receiver?

If so I may have to get one. Not paying £10/month though.

I expect free HD channel availability will be mirrored across freeview, freesat, and cable/sat basic packs.

Right now the demand v. cost of implimentation will be making the commercials like itv and 5 reluctant, who are already having problems with the loss of advertising revenue.

The Freeview folks might be better advised to forget HD for a while and ensuring everyone can receive all channels in SD first.

My inlaws in Berkshire are on the Hannington transmitter and have experienced endless probs recently with trying to receive channels on MUX1 (i.e. can't get BBC1, BBC2, etc.) They don't seem to be the only ones either.

All the 'restore factory TV settings, delete existing channels, re-tune...' advice in the world has failed to redeem the situation. Suffice to say that I don't think that the availability of BBC HD content on Freeview is top of their list of concerns right now.

Berkshire is a Pre switchover area, Freeview HD will only be available after switch over. Most pre switchover areas have poor reception due to the lower signal strength used so they can co exist with the analougue ones. Its a different situation after switchover and you get all new problems like going from not being able to pick up anything to picking up 3 transmitters all at once and the EPG going nuts! biggrin
