I need to purchase some HDD/DVD recorders for recording lectures and other content in a venue I look after, usually direct to the HDD and then will need to playback using repeat/loop on a TV system.

Currently I use a Panasonic and a Samsung. Problem is neither has an audio level meter on the display, so we never know if we are getting good audio from the lecturer's mic.

Anyone know of a unit that has level meters in the display window?

Could you not front end the recording component with a mixer/eq?

I'd record on a PC, lot's of software available to do that. Something like Audacity (free)

What are you using at the moment?

They do use a mixer in front of the HDD/DVD recorder and they can monitor the audio back through the mixer, if they know how to set it up! The problem is the 'Technicians' who do the recording, don't always get it right, if they had meters on the recorder they could at least see if something was going in.

We record direct to a DVD/HDD recorder, then play back from that on a TV system, PC recording will not work.

Sounds like a job for a Mackie 24/96 except it's a Studio device and I'm mot sure they make it any more. Here's a link anyway.

Thanks but that's only an audio device. Has to be a DVD/HDD recorder.
