Hi-Fi just for headphones
Discussion
I fancy a hi-fi, but frankly get very little opportunity to crank it up and get the full benefit. Also speaker positioning is a potential problem.
So, I was thinking that there might be an option of putting together a system just for use with headphones while sitting on my favourite comfy chair.
Of course, this can be done, but can you still get the benefits of a medium end system with just headphones as an output? Am I mad?
Has anybody done similar?

Well, the answer would be the same. Just get the best separates you can afford (and a decent set of headphones)
Just minus the speakers!
But you may as well get speakers anyway so you can listen normally. Best, for your hearing, not to use headphones too often and for too long.
What's the budget?

Well, as with most things my budget is initially modest (but not set) but I can guarantee that whatever kit I buy will be sold and replaced with something more expensive for minimal gains, if I use it as I think I will.
I've just bought some Senheiser HD650 headphones and am actually thinking of a Marantz CD6003 cd player as it seems to get good reviews and has a headphone out, saving me the cost of an amp - initially at least.
I might end up adding an amp and speakers, but as per my op, I doubt it would get used as much!
My original plan was to buy a decent headphone amp, rather than spend the cash on a normal amp then use the cheapest part of it to play my music through (is it still true that the headphone circuit/out is usually a £2 afterthought?)
