Arcam AVR Home Cinema Amps

Been hunting around 't interweb looking for some UK prices for the Arcam AVR (500, 600 and 888) amps, but web thingy at work keeps banjaxing me!!

Some reliable links / or reputable companies appreciated.

Had a look at the infamouse (legend in his own lunchtime) Der's site but he doesn't seem to carry Arcam ....

I doubt you'll find any 'discount' prices on the web for these models as Arcam have some kind of price policy with regard to advertising. I believe that dealers can get 'struck off' if they advertise less than RRP (or whatever it's called these days).

However, get on the phone to your local dealer and have a chat as I understand that they will haggle (mine certainly will). I was considering the AVR600 myself, but I'm still holding off due continued issues with HDMI handshaking, pops, etc that still don't seem to resolved even with the latest firmware update. For around £3k I think this should be take for granted that it will be sorted, but I'm not taking the risk just yet myself.

Do I take it that you are an Arcam dealer too then? Might be handy to know if I read that they've sorted out the issues at some future point (unfortunately not before in my case).

I am not but a collegue of mine is ....... (i however may aso be once i have had a proper play with his!!!)

Said line is being dropped shortly, will verify the price he has been quoted here and the exact model that he is interested in .....

Out of interest, what speakers would you be recomending with these AVR's out of interest?

Rather depends on the budget.

888 is a Processor so dependant on power amp then the M&K 150THX system same for the 600.

with the 500 then the M&K 950 system.

Not cheap toys but then neither is the amp and i guess you are hardly going to stick some back of a lorry speakers onto it so may as well go the whole hog ....

Just been reading up on them M&K's ... rather tasty!

Quite a few Arcam owners have teamed them with PMC speakers as well, not to dismiss M&K but always worth having an option. I happen to use both myself; PMC fronts and M&K surrounds, but I've only got an Arcam power amp, not the full receiver/preamp...yet.
