Just working through the finishing touches to the lounge.

Currently I have a a Philips 37" HD LCD TV which I have connected a SKY+HD box, DVD player and a Wii - only sound is via the TV.

What I want to do is add the ability to listen to music CDs via the DVD player via some speakers. I'm not interested in surround sound, just some reasonable "stereo" quality.

So here's my thoughts;

1. Purchase a Marantz NR1501 (its slim so will fit!)
2. Purchase some "Micro" speakers either Bose AC5's or a couple of Anthony Gallo Micros
3. Re-use the Yamaha Sub that I have - if I go the Gallo Micro route.
4. Connect the Sky+HD, DVD and Wii to the AMP - does this mean that I will only have 1 x HDMI output lead no going to the TV?
5. Add Apple TV to sync iTunes etc into the system
6. Add a PS3 for additional gaming and Blue Ray
7. Purchase a Logitec Harmony One to control it all!!!

In my brain this all seems possible but will it actually work?

Thoughts?

Cheers

Everything else you said sounds perfectly fine with the exception of this one,

You need to make shure that the AV amp has this capability, how is your Wii connected? You can get a Component (YPrPb) lead for it if that makes it easier (will clear the picture up either ways). Same with your DVD, you need to check that the amp will convert whatever you input it with to the HDMI output.

Have a good old read through the user maunual for it to make sure b4 you buy, or if it dont make sence to you then post up a link for it here and someone will assist.

The unit has an up-converter (that converts composite

video signals using full digital processing.
That seems to sort that question out, but I think if you're wanting a nice sound for music then in my opinion small speakers are a no no. Get a nice pair of standmount speakers. No matter what the OH says, find a way! smile

Thanks for the replies.

I went for a demo of the Gallo speakers with a Sub and they were pretty impressive. You do need a sub to go with them - which I was planning on doing - I was amazed to be honest. Only down side was £150 each!

I also asked about connecting everything into the amp and he said the amp WAS a little over kill if I was not going to make use of the 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound - but it would work in the way that I want i.e. connecting all the devices in and having only 1 HDMI out - it will also upscale any input.

They also confirmed that I could set the frequency threshold on the left and right front channels as the Gallos will blow at anything under 100Hz?
