Hi,

I want to get a 1080p HD TV. I've been thinking about buying a Panasonic 50" V10 series, which looks very nice and has a great picture. However, I saw a 55" Samsung LED TV yesterday and the picture on that was stunning! And now I'm not sure what to get. I currently have a Toshiba 42" TV which I got back in 2002. It's running on component cables and the picture's very good anyway (it's really just a rebadged Panasonic TV).

I basically have no clue when it comes to TVs, I've bought a good one in the past and then paid somebody to set it up. This seems to work for me as I can see the picture's good but don't know what to look for when buying.

Any thoughts / help will be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Got hold of my Panasonic 50V10 just before xmas and have been blown away by it. Watched Transformers 2 on BluRay the other night and it was stunning.

There are plasma fans and LCD fans, but if you want better blacks and handling of high speed action then I would (and did) stick with plasma and the Panny (if you can find one) is a great piece of kit.

50V10 is the default choice at that price bracket unless you can find a 5090 languishing somewhere, which is unlikely but you never know.

Panasonic V10 every day. Standard sound quality is so much better, and the LED is only impressive when running a HD source, otherwise I think it's performance is fairly poor.

Not too worried about sound quality as I already have home entertainment speakers, amp etc. Best picture quality is what I'm after!

Unless very lucky to find a Pioneer 5090, then the Panny 50V10 is the next best thing to sliced bread.
Alternatively, get the G10 version, and pay an ISF accredited professional to calibrate it for you (typically £300 for 2 inputs for daytime and evening viewing light levels).
