Hi All

Total novice at HiFi stuff but I have what will seem like a basic question. We are having all our rooms boarded and skimmed so I intend to fit some speaker cable for the surround sound. I'm also going to run some into the kitchen just in case I want to install speakers.

Question is: Do I need to put speaker cable in conduit? Can't see why but one of my mates says that I need to. Also any tips on the cable I should use?

Cheers

Chris

Only mains cable needs to go in conduit.

If you are running cables in the wall to be plastered over, then yes, run it in conduit.

It makes it easier to install, replace and I have heard of plaster degrading the cable insulation over time.

If it's going to be dot and dab then run it in capping.

It's not strictly necessary but it will provide an element of protection should someone hit it with a drill.
