Where to buy 70 plus inch rear projection televisions!
Discussion
I currently own a 70inch JVC rear projection 1080dp TV which I ordered from (wait for it.....TESCO.CO.UK!) however they no longer sell them and after I had contacted them their comments were "it is no longer in our interest to be selling such a television"....despite me trying to place an order for 5 more!!
I have had this now for almost 12 months and it is amazing, I am looking to purchase more, perhaps the 73inch "Mitsubishi WD73C9 73" DLP Rear Projection HDTV" but I simply cannot find ANYwhere on the net who can deliver to UK.
Anyone own one of these absolute beauties? Or know of a site where I could order? And for the record, my JVC was only £1100 !! Considering a plasma 63inch is £2000.....!
Happy new year

Would ask you to look into a HD projector instead, a Optoma HD65 as an entry point (£300 used- £450 ish new) will be as good and prob bigger and better.I have had this now for almost 12 months and it is amazing, I am looking to purchase more, perhaps the 73inch "Mitsubishi WD73C9 73" DLP Rear Projection HDTV" but I simply cannot find ANYwhere on the net who can deliver to UK.

I use one as a main set instead of TV, haven't bothered getting a drop down screen either yet as just on a pale wall looks so good.

Yikes, do they still make rear projection TVs? Fortunately unless you are absolutely square on to the TV and at the exact right height, you pretty much can't see the picture to know how bad it is...
Spend the extra on the plasma old chap!
No its fantastic, lots of bright natural light in the room and viewable from any angle! PS3 hooked up and blue rays are a dream!Spend the extra on the plasma old chap!
I already have a 55inch plasma in another room but I adore these rear projections because they can break through the 63inch plasma barrier to 70,80 and I think even a 90inch mitsubishi tv! while still being 720dp or even 1080dp! Its these that I am interested in as I dont want a "cinema" with screen/projector/darkened room etc, they are nice but they wouldnt be for me!

digi - lol!
Seems to be quite a prejudice & dislike against these! But I can assure you rear projection TV's have come along way since perhaps the very first one my father purchased some 10years ago! It was only I think a 40 inch screen, and probably 40 inches deep at the rear lol! If you got up from your seat the picture becomes black, you have to be at a perfect angle not to mention the 2-4 minute startup time!
Today they start in seconds, viewable from any angle, 70inch screen, and approax only 13-15inches deep at the rear, 1080dp resolution, nice and bright you can actually leave lights on in the room and still watch just as well as any plasma!
I personally think they are simply not being sold - and Ive never had so much trouble trying to source one deliverable within the UK! because these will destroy the plasma/lcd market for the size hungry TV shopper - 63inch plasma at £2,500 or 85inch Mitsubishi rear projection tv 1080dp for £1,000 - I'll take 2 !

Did you find one in the end?
I was surprised they're virtually extinct given they were still fairly big especially in america only a year or so ago, although they are inclined to measure vaule in $'s per inch.
I guess the bottoms fallen out of the 50" market due to flat panel prices and most people in the market for a 70" in the UK probably have a huge house and a few k is nowt.

I just found this

But as with everything else - no delivery to the UK! why are we starved of DLP technology 60inch and above in the UK!!? I promise you it is as impressive as my 55inch plasma 1080dp in the bedroom with or without lights on/natural sunlight!

The problem is that manufacturer have pulled rear projection in the UK so no warranty cover and so no official UK stockists and no UK delivery!
Projectors work very well these days, mine is two years old and never has a dark room to work with. It stil wows a mate of mine who has a 50" plasma. You can also set them up to rear project onto translucent material so even less light problems!
If you have your eart set on rear projection TV then you need to find a shipping agent in the US who will accept delivery and then send it on to you.
