I'm looking to spend around £250-£300 on a receiver, I'll be connecting blu-ray, x-box, wii, freeview or skybox, oh a TV. I'll be starting off with two speaker then gradually adding more over time. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I picked up a Yamaha RX-V465 a couple of weeks ago to power a set of 5.1 Q-Acoustics speakers. Have been very happy so far - four HDMI connectors which is more than most at this price range and sound is excellent. Only downside is that only the two front speaker outputs have proper binding posts for the speaker wire; the rest use spring clips. But that's not exactly a deal breaker.

I bought a Sony STRDH800 from Richer Sounds a couple of weeks ago for £250.

It's got plenty of inputs (4 x HDMI, 3 x component, 3 x composite, 2 x optical & 1 x coax) and is 7.1 ready. I've got it configured as 5.1 and have no complaints. Sky HD, PS3 & 360 are all via HDMI and WII via component.

No doubt the Onkyo fans will be along shortly with their two penneth wink but for £250 I'm very happy.
