A mate has had Sky HD installed in the UK, for which he hadn't upgraded the CRT television but decided to take it to another house abroad (allegedly) where he had a HD ready television. The Sky box wasn't damaged in transit and for some reason won't hook up to the television, a Panasonic TX-P37X10Y which displays the 'No channel found' message and yet when the old Sky box is connected the channels appear.

He's tried getting the telly to connect automatically, but nothing happens. Any ideas as to what's gone wrong as he can't RTFM as he doesn't have the manual with him. wink

As he's trying to persuade the other half that a new telly in England to 'enjoy' the Rugbystrikethrough soap operas is a worthwhile investment once she's seen how good HD is (on the other telly) any help would be appreciated. So far the cunning plan isn't working.

The SkyHD box is only activated to work with the card supplied with it at install (and subsequent non-working replacement), and I'm guessing a different satellite(s) covers Europe, so any handshaking it does, won't be recognised.

Two things here, you need to distinguish between is it the TV not displaying the picture from the satellite reciever or is it the satellite reciever not reciecing the channels.

The sky HD box needs connecting to the TV using an HDMI lead, then you need to select the appropriate HD input on the TV to see the picture from the Sky HD box.

I suspect the 'No channels found' message you are seeing is being produced by the TV and not the Sky HD box (as they do say that if no aerial is plugged in), hit the AV button on the Top Right of the TV remote control then select either HDMI 1 or 2, as sky boxes usually disply 'No Sattelite signal being recieved' or if there are no channels they just stick on the searching for listings screen.

tell the Lazy B to look at Panasonic support

If he uses the HDMI connection the problem lies with the SKY box. Don't the SKY+ and SKY HD+ require a subscription, based on location, to work?

Sky HD is registered to the address and telephone number of the account. If you take the decoder and plug it in somewhere else with either a different phone line or even without the phone line it will not work and you get the no channels being received message.

Not true, it will work in the same decoder no matter were you plug it in (within the satellite footprint) you only get a problem when they notice your phone line isnt connected.

You wont get HD using a SCART lead, you will be able to see the HD channels but the pic you will be seeing will only be SD. For HD you have to connect up using an HDMI lead.

Oh. I've put the HDMI lead in the back of the Sky+ box and connected it to the telly, but we're back to the 'no signal' scenario. Any ideas?

My father in law has a normal SKY box connected to an LCD at his place in Spain. I had it installed. Summer 08 with the Olympics was great. However, when he was out in Feb this year he couldn't get it working - the same "no channels found" as your friend has. Turned out to be the dish had become misaligned and the LNB was knackered. LNB under warranty and fifty euros to realign.

Now sweet as.

Hope this helps your mate.

No channel Found sounds like he's trying to use the built-in FreeSAT HD if fitted to that TV. He needs to press AV button and select the appropriate input.

The model number of the Panny you've listed doesn't exist.

not strictly true, people start them in the UK and send them abroad. Every so often SKY might order the box to do a random call back, in which case it will fail, and the box will shut down. Some boxes apparantly last years, others months. All luck of the draw.

Sussed it. It would seem as if there are different quality HDMI leads as the cables bought here didn't work, but when HI turned up with the Sky (supplied) HDMI lead it worked. HD is better, but not the quantum leap I was hoping for.

Happy Christmas and thanks for your input.
