I understand that there have been problems. But does this come over more like a Sky HD advert?

Interesting, I was watching BBC HD the other day and thought it must have been a "Period" effect. Problem being it wasn't a Period drama.... (Not that I watch Period dramas...)

A change in bitrate doesn't necessarily mean you have less information, just a more efficient encode. Life looks perfectly fine to me!

We watched Life the other night (the sea life one on the coral reefs etc) on Freesat BBC HD and thought it looked brilliant, but Ive watched a couple of other things like Gavin and Stacy and Jonathon Ross last night and to me it didnt look a lot different to the SD feed from my Sky box. Admittedly we sit a little far back from our 42" to get the full HD effect, but I found sitting closer with something like Gavin and Stacy simply made SD look worse (as you'd expect) but the HD didn't really improve with closer viewing.

Locoblade, remember that HD broadcasts are 720p or 1080i - your distance might be fine for those resolutions, but not Blu-Ray 1080p, assuming your TV is Full HD, not merely HD Ready (1080 native vs 720/768 native pixel)
