I am considering replacing my venerable Sony DAV-S880 with the following:
5x KEF2001 Eggs
Wharfedale Diamond SW150 Sub
Sony STRDH800 amp

The speakers + sub are secondhand for a mate who is after £200-250 for them.

The above is to be paired with existing SKY+ HD, PS3, X360, Wii.
My Samsung LCD only has one HDMI, and the HDMI switching is the main appeal of the upgrade.

Existing kit works OK with films but struggles with TV - the sound on the Samsung is pretty good.

Any comments/suggestions? I know the Jamo speakers at the £250 mark get good reviews but may be "bright". I'd like to avoid that.
Also considering just running the Kefs+Sub off the DAVS880 for a while, but it only has a speaker level sub output, and suspect that it may be the weakpoint of the existing system.

I'd say check the classifieds on AVForums.

I got:

2 x KEF Q35.2
2 x KEF Q15.2 + Stands
1 x KEF Q95C
1 x KEF 30B Sub

For £300, excellent pieces of kit, apparently the Wharfedale 150 sub isn't too good smile

Sub no good? Is this the same Wharfedale SW150 which got "Best Sub under £300" in 2005, 2006, and 2007?
It replaced his original KEF sub, which went off with a bang. Twice. I was there both times cool

No idea, I'd take the "Best" awards with a pinch of salt though, the SW150 is slated everywhere that I've read about it :/

Hmmm I am always suspicious of reviews. I reckon there's some backhanders going on.
Poo.

I've borrowed them now anyway. Will give it a test tonight.

I imagine they'll be fine, I was looking at getting one and they were described as not being very powerful, and that the 250 was better.

Turns out that half the time I don't have the sub turned on anyway (Shared house)

Doh!

The old KEF subs I've heard blow up because they're being left on standby rather than 'off' or 'on', I think the replacement amp boards they sell are supposed to fix this, but I always make sure I don't set mine to standby anyway.

Sub fine, speakers lack a bit of midrange, imo. The wife likes them better than the Sony silver towers tho :-/
