Hi all,

I'm currently in the process of buying a house. The place in question hasnt had its walls plastered yet, and the wiring is in the process of being done.

I don't want to do the whole house, but would quite like to have the living room properly wired up for surround sound.

Whenever the cables are run round the walls, what sort of sockets would I need to purchase? Do the cables end in some sort of connection box, for to fit the speakers?

Any help appreciated.. I'm a bit clueless on this topic!

Almost always easier to have the cables present directly out of the walls without boxes at the speaker end.

Also remember they're not rears, they're surrounds so they should be slightly behind the listening position facing each other rather than on the back wall facing forward.

Thanks for the input. I have a question about layouts though.. heres a floorplan of the living room.

The sofa will be going directly opposite the fireplace, with the TV on a stand to the right of the fireplace (which is right in the middle of the room.. can anyone suggest the best placement for speakers then? the other "half" of the room will be used as a different sitting area, seperate from TV related viewing.

I'd suggest putting the front left and right beside the TV and the surrounds on the rear wall either side of your viewing position.

With a diagonal / offset viewing position, you don't have too many options.
