A question for the PH oracles of Audio Visual world. What are your thoughts on the selection of room and wife friendly speakers below.

I confess that I'm particularly taken with the Gallos and the Orbs - so if you have any actual listening experiences please elucidate.

  • Gallo Micros (are the Ti versions worth the extra?)
  • Orb Mod1 speakers - I like these because of their upgradeability but I'll have to import them, which could make them quite expensive.
  • Kef 3005
  • B&W MT-25s
Thanks

P.S. They'll be driven by a Yamaha RX-V1065.

Sonically and visually the Gallos are the pick of the crop and the Ti versions are even tighter and even quicker.

Even sure I could sort you out a deal if you're interested, feel free to drop me a line...

Are the B&Ws any good? I was panning on replacing my current set up with these at some point in the next 12mths.

Gallos might be worth a look though - ball park costs?

Personally I've always found B&W stuff a bit 'bright' and thats their entire range, not just the small stuff.

Gallo Nucleus Micro box, 5 sats plus the TR1 sub is £850 retail.

Thanks for the feedback.

I should go and do some auditioning in the new year I guess smile Plus some digging around for small receivers like the Marantz 1501.

It might just be me, but I can't see why anyone would have the Kefs. Ever sine the original eggs, there were always better performers by quie a way. Some of these also probably wouldn't blow / weld subs quite so often, which would be good.

B+W mt30 def v. good, can't see MT25 being abd at all. IMO gallos are a bit flat and pants (and the 2 part sub was god awful, might have changed in last 2-3 years), except the larger ones, which are nice. Not heard others, so can't comment there.

Bought a lovely set of Castle speakers a few years ago.....

Totally approved by the wife - as she was at the time...

in Walnut perfectly blended into the lounge, we have a walnut floor.. - they do a large number of veneer finishes, sound really good too.

even the big floorstanders fit in well...
