Bog standard speakers for mum and dad's hard of hearing?
Discussion
Hi all
My parents have a 32" flat screen and sit perhaps 8ft away. For them, it's perfect. (in fact, I had my new 42" G10 set up there for a few weeks to test it, as my house still had the builders in and they hated it ).
Anyway, they complain that they find it very difficult to hear sometimes what's being said. I've played with the sound a little, but they say it's not helped.
So, what I was thinking was simply some floor standing vertical (and thin) speakers to go either side of the TV to increase the sound level a bit for them. They don't want surround sound (have tried it before and they simply don't like it) so only want sound coming from the front, and as such we don't need anything flash; just purely more speakers.
First question; would this help, do you think, and second question - any recommendations? Looking to get it for them for christmas - while budget isn't key, they don't need anything of high quality if you get my drift
Thanks all
Tony

Do they both come under the category of "Hard of Hearing"? Have they had there hearing tested? Do they both have hearing aids?
As you age high frequency hearing drops off. Before I got my hearing aids all speech sounded muddy. You may not like the sound if it is adjusted for them as it may need to be very top heavy.
My father did use a pair of wireless headphones for a while. Unfortunately they cut you off from the world (e.g. can't hear the 'phone).

Ah apologies the "hard of hearing" was a bit misleading.
Neither wears hearing aids, and neither has particularly bad hearing in any way - it's just every now and then when they watch tv, even at slightly higher (but not silly) volumes, they can't hear some words.
You're right - perhaps I need to increase the higher frequencies. That's a very good point - I'll have a quick go at that tonight!
Plotty - will have a google on that anyhow. Thanks!
