Hi folks,

a simple what telly question for you AV experts...

- I need a telly to hang on the wall in my home gym.

- about 32-37 inches is the size I'm looking at.

- Ideally, I'd like a built in DVD player... this is not absolutely essential, but I'd like to be able to play DVDs and I dont know of a better 'hang on the wall' solution.

- built in freeview

- good sound, as it will need to overcome the sound of a rowing machine/cross trainer whirring away...

- nice picture quality etc...

- It'd be great if I could plug my ipod into it as well, if possible...

- budget: well, what do I need to spend? £600 would be an ideal maximum unless I really 'ought' to spend more to get the right tool for the job...

I have a couple of Toshibas and a Panasonic in the house already, and I'm mostly happy with all of them, but willing to be educated!

Many thanks in advance!!

Televisions with inbuilt DVD players generally have them for a reason, as a marketing point to hide the fact they're crap.

Nice 37X10 and a wall shelf with a DVD player on it, perhaps?

Yeah, I had kinda thought that, plus there's very few built in doovde tellies on the market afaik...

If I went for a 37 incher without the dvd, any recommendations?

cheers

Costco do a 37 inch Panasonic and i think it really is quite good. My personal pic of the bunch is the G series as it has built in freesat and 100hz. Sound isn't too bad either. Not sure what region you're in but if around the Watford Costco then by all means come and have a chat.

I always thought Telly Venables was good, but he doesn't have a DVD..

st jokes aside, any TV can have ipod dead easy - get a 3 red, white, yellow phono to scart (in) adaptor, and a 3.5mm (headphone) to phono lead.
Plug ipod into lead into adaptor into telly, select scart input and ou're away. It's not a pretty solution by any means, but it works.

Panasonic have some package deals at the moment. I've just bought a 32V10 which came with a bluray player (and 7 free films). The TV even has internet access but I've no ethernet point near it at the moment.

Also, for the sound, I quite like the idea of something like the JVC TH-BA1... are these any good? I have a Yamaha soundbar in the house, and I'm well happy with that, but wanted something a bit more 'wall mountable' and also, a wee bit cheaper...

and another thing, and I'm sure this has been done to death a thousand times, but at 37 inches, am I better with plasma or lcd? and, erm, why?

many thanks

The gym isnt really too impressive, but nice enough for home use.
Simple bench with some DBs, rowing machine, cross trainer, punch bag...
It's in the eaves of a pitched roof, so not exactly massive, I'll try and get the camera out later!
