All,

I fancy buying the parents a home cinema kit for Christmas. I recently splashed out on HD for them so I thought I might as well finish the deal and get a decent surround sound kit for 'em.

I got my sister an X360 last year - is that going to be alright for good quality? Or do I need to get them a blu-ray player as well? They're watching through a Toshiba Regza 42" HD TV so not bad - what's the best place/kit to get? I'm looking to spend about £200-£300 although I'm flexible (reasonably).

Any ideas? Thanks IA for any responses.

Xbox is fine for me, but if you want a blu-ray player you might as well get a PS3 too they're getting much cheaper now. Make sure you are using HDMI cables for as much as possible as it makes an enormous difference to the quality. Can't really help on the surround sound though I'm afraid all mine is very out of date.

Yeah I was going to get them a PS3 (slim) rather than a dedicated bluray device, seeing as my sis got a Wii two years ago and an Xbox last year it's only fitting she gets the final part of the trio this year!

And yup, X360 is run through HDMI cables. The other one's for Virgin HD but I'm sure there are adapters etc to solve that.

Thanks for the response though - anybody able to help with the sound?
