I have a Marantz CD player and it has issues.

When I put a disc in it it just comes up with a "no disc" message. I've had the cover off and can't see anything wrong.

Any ideas what the problem may be?

Does the disc spin up and try to read the disc's TOC ( table of contents) or not rotate at all ?

It reads for a couple of seconds then says no disc.

Can you get to the lens to check / clean it ? May involve lifting the cable clamp by hand.

Cleaned the lens, no joy. The disc isn't spinning at all when inserted.

+1. Sounds like laser. Might be worth giving the disc half a turn when the draw closes to make sure the spindle motor hasn't got a flat spot. Have seen that before on Philips ~ Marantz and Technics A series which use Philips swing arm type laser mechanisms.

Thanks for advice everyone.

I've done a bit of research and the part I need is a VAM 1201.

Where is a good place to find one?

Thanks for all your help everyone.

CD player is now working again. Good news. It's nice to be able to repair something myself for a change.

Excellent service/value from Dalbani/Nikko Electronics too. Got the part delivered next day for £18.

I might spend the money I've saved on upgrading my speakers so will be starting a which speakers thread later.

Cheers.

I didn't see your reply sorry!

Cracking news, always better to repair than replace!
