My parents live in the north of England, a few miles from the Scottish Borders, as such it appears they get their signal from a Scottish Transmitter, rather than the local English one.

The Scottish region recently transfered to digital and after scanning their box they have had bbc1 england replaced with bbc1 scotland, but can still tune into bbc1 england on non-digital (presumably they are also getting a feed from the local english transmitter).

Is there a way of getting BBC1 england through digital, or is it down to the individual transmitter? IF that is the case I presume they can get a better aerial and switch to the english transmitter?

Hope this makes some sense to someone

Use the postcode checker at DigitalUK. Check the trade box and you will get a lot of technical information.

The main thing is which transmitters can be received. The detail includes which direction you have to point the aerial.

This is a common problem when you're on the border between two transmitter areas. I know because I've just been through this with some relatives of mine in Cumbria!

You will probably find that their TV has chosen the strongest BBC signal (BBC Scotland) and put these channels in position 1 and 2. The BBC England channels will *probably* be in the 800s somewhere - perhaps 801 and 802. This is because the TV hasn't really got anywhere to put them and as they are weaker than the BBC Scotland signal it thinks they're less important so shoves them somewhere obscure.

You have a few options...

1. These easiest is if you have a TV that supports reorganising channels. Just move or delete the BBC Scotland channels and move the BBC England channels down to positions 1 and 2. See here for a bit more info: http://www.freeview.co.uk/freeview/Resolutions/Abo...

2. If your TV doesn't support this, then there are some tricks you can play like removing the aerial when you are scanning the channels to stop it picking up the BBC Scotland channels, or using something called an attenuator to weaken the signal from the Freeview transmitters in Scotland. This is a bit more tricky though and for more information I'd recommend asking on a specialist forum such as: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/forumdisplay.ph...

Hope that makes some sort of sense...

Get them to buy a Freesat receiver , after installing a small dish. When setting up you can put in any postcode in the UK and receive programmes for that region.

UKfree.tv will give you the specific frequencies for each transmitter. Once you have those, you can manually tune (just type in the numbers) the Freeview box to those frequencies.
