Samsung PS42B451B 42" Plasma TV
Discussion
£439 delivered from Dixons - any good?
Considering this vs. the Panasonic TX - P37X10 and both seem to be similarly priced.
My concern is that the 42" is a bit too big for viewing from 8 foot or so away, but it does seem a lot of TV for the money.
Also I have concerns over how it'll seem with SD material from a Sky+ box - hence looking at Plasma as they seem a little less blocky/smeary than LCD sets (my Mum has a 26" Samsung LCD which is frankly shocking on the integrated Freeview - the only thing going for it is that it's 2" front to back).
I know it's yet another what TV thread but once you buy one you tend to be stuck with it for several years.

We've a 37" Panny Plasma, and from 10' it looks grand with SD, very well set up, if I do say so myself.
If it weren't for the shape of the room dictating where things pretty much have to go, there'd be a 42" sitting here, at least.
So, if you can push for a 42", then I'd suggest the Panny 42X10 is the one, but don't dismiss the 42G10 altogether.

I don't actually know what you're driving at? If the Samsung isn't as good because.... then please just explain it makes it a lot simpler There is such a thing as a false economy.
I have the Samsung. Got it for £427. Compared to the £600+sets I'd imagine its not that great but I think its fine. The only thing I'll say against the Samsung is the sound is quite frankly shocking!!(as it seems to be on most LCD/ PLASMA/ LED) Not a big problem as I intend putting it through surround sound eventully any way.

On a very tight budget the Panasonic 42X10 would have delivered (a) half decent sound and (b) black, as opposed to shades of grey levels.
Would agree with you on sound (although the Panasonics still not good). Nothing wrong with blacks on the Samsung after a bit o fiddling with settings.derestrictor said:
Wrt, in isolation, I can understand how you might say as much but it is built to a price.
This breed at 2 - 3 times the spec falls down in this regard.
The problem I have is the context of "built to a price". If it's noticeable when watching HD or Blu-Ray or something with a very high quality signal it's not likely to affect me, however if it's noticeably poorer with dealing with SD via Sky+ over SCART then it's more important and even then only possibly. This breed at 2 - 3 times the spec falls down in this regard.
