HD Camcorders - any suggestions?

You should look at the newer AVCHD format, mainly Panasonic but also some Sony and others now. Uses standard SDHC cards for storage, so no tapes, DVDs or HDD to worry about, and they're cheap!
If you're going to edit on a computer then you need to make sure the software will do AVCHD.

Not sure on your budget/needs, but assuming you want full HD that is worth being HD, then the Canon Hv30 is a good one.
Falls short on mpx stills, but not sure why you want that so high on this kinda thing!?
Very big semi pro following, some fantastic stuff out there done with them. Cult camera and holds value well vs most similar stuff.
Nice and small too, and good HD format encoding (decent bitrate on tape)
Worth a look anyway.
