Not sure if this is the correct forum for this question but here goes.

On reading about sat dish installation I see this :

"Important Note: Don't turn on the satellite receiver until you have connected up the coaxial cable. Satellite receivers supply a small voltage (18V) up the satellite feed cable for controlling the LNB, so make sure you connect everything up before turning the satellite receiver on, otherwise you could damage your receiver."

That suggests that if I buy a TV with Freesat but don't yet have the dish, I can't turn the TV on!

Makes no sense to me, I guess the small voltage they mention will just sit there waiting for the down-lead to be connected. How would that damage the TV?

Anyone know or does anyone have a TV with Freesat installed but no dish yet erected?

Cheers

If you buy a freesat equipped TV, don't connect the sat co-ax cable while the TV is plugged in. Not really that much different than the warning not to attach co-ax cable while freesat box if plugged in. The issue is with a power spike caused when the co-ax is connected to a powered receiver.

Or is that not what you were confused about?.

Aha, that is not what the warning was saying was it. Makes sense the way you have explained it.

The 18v has short circuit protection anyway.

It was this bit that made no sense as it implied the TV must not be turned on without a dish connected.
