Best 40" /42 " screen for about £1k
Discussion
I’m looking specifically to get the most out of bluray movies on a £1k budget. I don’t mind whether I end up with LCD or plasma.
Turning to you guys to help whittle out the chaff. Feeling just a little overwhelmed with the choice of models and manufacturers. A short list of units to view would be extremely helpful.
Many thanks in advance.

Best from B-R's depends on your seated viewing distance from the TV, which with a 42" would mean 6', in order to fully appreciate the extra resolution 1080p provides.
I'm guessing you'll be much further than that, so even a 50' at 8' is probably not going to do it either.
From that point, it could be argued you don't need to look beyond a 42/50X10 Panasonic Plasma, but the Full HD G/V models do offer increased contrast ratio, FreeSat, and in the V's case, THX picture mode, which is reasonably close to a fully calibrated screen.
If it were me, I'd be looking at a 50" to immerse myself in the whole movie experience - short of going to a projector/screen based system for size and seeing the extra resolution from whatever the distance is.

I've yet to understand this aspect of TV buying - you buy a TV for the picture quality it produces when you're watching a favourite program or movie.
I've never looked at a TV whilst off, any longer than has been necessary, and that was only to clean the dust off it.
Adorn the room with other nice looking trinkets, and that'll remove the need to fret over what the visitors will be looking at upon their arrival.
Get it bought, and start enjoying those movies starting to gather dust!
