42" Too Big for 8' away?
Discussion
Before someone says "Go and stand 8' away from one" it's not the same, just the same as TVs look smaller surrounded by other TVs in a huge department store than they do when you get it home and find it occupies half the room.
I'm thinking either 37" or 42" Plasma if I do choose to change TV, and there's a point where bigger simply isn't better especially on SD material.
I may just run the CRT into the ground but sometimes the yearning for new toys means you have to at least investigate these things.

Absolutely fine.
My 50" is about 10 feet from the couch and, although I was worried it was going to be too big when I bought it, it's perfectly adequate. In fact, I reckon the room could easily cope with a larger screen.
I play my xbox on it, sitting about 6 or 8 feet away and it's not a problem.

Where do you sit in the cinema? If it's near the front you'll be fine. Personally I feel ill if I sit too near the front in the cinema, and when I bought my 37" telly, which sits 9' from the sofa, to begin with I thought I'd made a mistake. I've got used to it now though and reckon I could have got away with a 42"
