What often surprises me about these rooms, considering their cost and the likely quality of the equipment going into them, is that they are often light colours which is awful for the picture quality of a projector. I know not everyone wants to sit in a black room, but having dark material at least for the first couple of metres out from the screen makes a big difference to the image.
However, if they are all owned by single guys with lousy film collections, what do I care about their picture quality or their tacky decorations?

Its more that they use projection that is very bright and use low gain screens. However, if they are all owned by single guys with lousy film collections, what do I care about their picture quality or their tacky decorations?
Which gives you flexibility in decoration, which is the important part for most clients, it needs to perform within the confines of the aesthetic.
Yes, I suppose I'm stuck in a 'mere mortals' mind set using a modest JVC HD350 and a Beamax screen (which is also Matt White). I've seen how good my picture can be through adding some black to the room for viewing. It just pains me to see that they could have the ideal room for best picture quality and choose to decorate in questionable taste instead as a priority.
