Got Sky HD, (need to find out exact date to find out if I am still under warranty), and recently we keep "losing signal" when watching recorded content / coming off pause...

Any thoughts anyone?

I had this recently - breakup of channels during normal viewing, and also from recorded programs. It turns out that it's a common issue, but replacement PSUs aren't available so you have to get your existing one repaired.

I've just sent mine off to this place here:

http://www.free-sat-tv.co.uk/SkyRepairs.php

I'm hoping to get it back today, so will find out if it has done the job later this evening!

It was £24 I think (from ebay). I sent the box off on Wednesday, he received it on Thursday and was due to post it back to me on Friday, so I'm hoping it will have arrived today.

even if it wasn't under warranty i would be going down that route.

just threaten to cancel and mean it...they will eventually repair/replace the box for free.

can you describe the fault?

in the last few days I have been getting an occasional "stutter" in picture (both live and recorded) and sound, the picture gets blocks of distortion across it

is this what you have experienced?

at first I thought it was just a poor satellite signal

thanks

That sounds like the same fault that I had - it's apparently a common issue, and caused by poor quality parts in the PSU. Mine is working perfectly now after being repaired.

sorry to resurrect but my sky hd is now working fine

is this issue intermittent or once it goes it has gone?

I only have 3 weeks of my 12 month warranty to go so thinking i should call and get it replaced/repaired anyway as this seems to be a known weakness with a known fix

I've had 4 jobs in the last month report this.

ste psu in the early Thomson boxes, the new pace boxes had a manufacturing fault and I've had untold problems with the Samsung ones added to which the new HD boxes are HDMI only, no component - brilliant bit of thinking that, wkers.

sorry but do you mean they reported the fault as intermittent as I described?

Yep, all using Thomson boxes.

I'd go, pull the power, plug it back in and it would be fine.

I'd leave, 2 hours later same fking fault.

Crap.

I've recently signed up to Sky HD for 12 months.

What happens at the end of the term? Can you just cancel, rejoin and then you'll get a new box?

believe so, supect you will have to pay a connection charge which, as you will already have the dish and cabling, will involve some knuckle dragger plgging in a new box, pressing a few buttons and relieving you of £50

I think mine is Thomson but perhaps not an early one as I only got it in Dec 08

just rang sky and they just told me to do a reboot, ie the usual secret menu / planner rebuild (or just rebuild, he could not remember and I am at work so was just writing down instructions)

no recognition that PSU was a known weak spot when I raised it

so is this a possible solution or just a fob off?

anyway the main thing is I have recorded the fault within the warranty period and been assured if it re-occurs after the warranty ends I will be covered for a reasonable period

I got my box a month ago(ish) and every now and again, i'll lose signal on one channel? The others will work fine though...bloomin' annoying.

The sure way of telling is to take the case off and look for bubbling on the capacitors.

If it started going blocky and then started reporting no signal pound to a penny its the PSU
