Ring them up, ask them to explain the options. When they are done, thank them but say you still think its a bit expensive so you will leave it for a while. See what deals they do.

It worked for me, got a big discount on the box, as they had a few "ex-demonstration"scratchchin models to shift.

They are doing a free SkyHD Box (£30 install fee) if you have Sky Movies for a year at the moment.

they never make you pay the install fee anymore, always some sort of "deal" on which gets rid of it, same with the free box. The only stipulation to this is you MUST keep Sky+ for 1 year and also have it connected to your phone line for that year so it can sample your usage data*

As suggested, ring up and say that it seems a little bit expensive and you will have a think about it, alternativly its always advertised in newpapers.

After the first year, so you are out of contract, around christmas or new year, ring them up and go to their cancelations department. Tell them that your finding the bill a bit expensive and that you are thinking of leaving. Ask if there is anything that they could do to make the cost a little less. If they talk about cancelling some channels, say the kids channels just say that your kids watch them and no point in having Sky if you didn't have them, Same for any of the packages, just have someone in your family which couldnt live without the package.

We end up getting that months bill halfed and the movie channels added for free for anything from 1 to 6 months. On the one occasion that we did not get offered this, just told, sorry we have no cheaper offers, we said ok, we need to think about other offers then and that we would call back once we had looked at other providers. This way your not left red-faced if they do say no and your then tied into cancelling.

(*send viewing data which is then used to work out what programs are popular, you are not able to be identified by what you view as all data is anonymous, IE - they can't tell your the dirty old man that only watches late night porn, they sell this data to recover the cost of free install and free box)

I keep thinking about, and the combo deals with phone & broadband deal look attractive, but you hear absolute horror stories about Sky customer service.

Are they still really bad?
