I have a TV and projector in the lounge, never used at the same time but I want to share the same input sources (xbox, sky, pc) and choose either the TV or Projector to display them on.

The TV accepts HDMI and the Projector both HDMI and Component inputs. The PC and sky output through HDMI and the Xbox through componant.

I've made a crude diagram to help explain what I was hoping to achieve with an AV reciever.

I've been to a shop with my requirements and come out with an Onkyo TX-SR607 that I was told would do the job.

What I've found it doesn't do is take the Sky/PC HDMI signal and let me send it to the Projector via component :/

A solution as I see it is to connect the projector via HDMI but with only one HDMI out on the reciever use a HDMI switch box to choose between sending to the TV and Projector.

Can anyone suggest a better solution and or reciever?

Thanks!

just get a hdmi switch and connect the various devices in the amp using audio inputs.

works really well for me in a similar situation, although you will need something with a switchable or 2 outputs

Can you not take it back for exchange with something else with 2 hdmi outs?

I have the same amp, as great as it is i cant use HDMI (from PS3/XBox), as i also use component cable to my projector, and likewise didnt realise its only HDMI pass through for video feed.

So am stuck with using component into the amp for all my video feeds

Im not bothered about using component in/out of the amp, but what is slightly annoying is i cant get the funky blue light to flash up on the amp for when its decoding movies in DTS-HD Master Audio/Dolby TrueHD !.. as you need HDMI cable (not optical) to get those superior sounds so like yourself using HDMI in i then cant see any image on screen. [my projector is quite old and is component only (720p).. really need to upgrade it at some stage]

edit* forgot to add, i would be more inclined to try and replace with another amp rather than a switch which may degrade the quality.. dont really know much abotu them but it would be a concern (maybe not initially but after use?).. also i wouldnt want to have all that lovely equipment hooked up but have to manually flick a switch like its 1980 when i want to change what im watching it on.

I agree, I want to avoid a switch.
Taking it back is an option - any thing with 2 HDMI's was circa £1500 though. If there is an amp that will take HDMI and send it out through the component for circa £400 it would be perfect.

Seriously a switch with a programmable remote (all in one) will do the job just fine.

I bought a Switch - 4 input 2 output and just use my Logictech Harmony remote to switch it automatically when the required source is selected

Ok thanks guys, I'll look into the switches.
I can't help but feel a bit ripped off- I could have got a lesser unit and bought an xbox elite with the change and be in exactly the same position where I need to split the HDMI output.

well that's not on if you feel ripped off, take it back and ask for a refund as it does suit your requirements, of which I am sure you told the slimey salesman who recommended said unit.

Take your custom elsewhere too... sorry I can't stand salesmen who either don't know their products or try and sell the customer something not fitting their requirements without explaining the drawbacks.

I have a similar setup (but mine is fed to an extra TV in a nearby conservatory so I have two devices to give 1 HDMI in and 3 out). My solution was to buy a simple 1 in 2 out HDMI splitter. It doesn't need to be switched so you can fed TV and PJ at the same time for example, but it also means you can tuck it somewhere out of the way and not need to get to it. I bought this is one and doesn't seem to suffer driving a 10 metre long HDMI cable to my PJ (JVC HD350):

To be fair the salesman was pleasant and wasn't at all pushy, just mistaken unfortunately. I'll keep the amp and go with a splitter as above I think. It means running a new HDMI through the floor to the projector which is a pain. I need some speakers to go with all 7.2 channels this amp has!
