I've had enough of changing channels or hitting the mute button every 10 minutes when the adverts come on, and the fact that I'm paying a hefty subscription to be bombarded with their adverts is fundamentally wrong.

So I've decided to buy a freeview box.

Does anyone know if I can set it up through my dish, as I don't have an aerial at the mo.

Also, are they all the same or are some better than others?

Thanks.

If its a FreeSat box and not Freeview it will work fine seeing as they use the same satellite as Sky.

Freesat through a dish, freeview via an aerial. Won't stop the ads though, just you paying to watch them! With the likes of iplayer, itvplayer, skyplayer, skyplus and tvshack, I don't see why anyone should ever have to watch adverts? If you had sky plus surely just set it to record and watch it half hour later, that way you can fast forward through all the ads.

I really don't see how all these adverts can work.

It infuriates me to such an extent that I will often just stop watching the movie and change the channel for good when the first lot comes on or more often than not turn the TV off in disgust and read a book or go on the net.

These fking drinks adverts on film four are particularly bad.

When that dreadful wood-creaking noise comes on when that ridiculous women moves on the sofa or the noise of those toys being thrown in the air- it boils my fking blood and I swear to never, ever buy their sodding drinks.

So who are all the sheep-zombie tossers who don't realise that these companies are trying to brainwash them and stay watching these adverts with a stupid, glazed grin on their faces, perpetuating the idea in the heads of the marketing lot that they are positively promoting their products and that they should continue poisoning our viewing pleasure with their vacuous drivel?

Is it you?

ETA This would have been better in the Lounge, I feel a bit awkward now... hehe

Lol Driller, couldn't have put it better myself.

Dan, if you ever find this thread again (why Home Cinema & Hi Fi?) do you know if FreeSat from Sky includes Sky sports news channel, as I don't think the BBC Freesat does?

Sky Sports News channel is encrypted.

You can see what you can scan for in Non Freesat mode here http://en.kingofsat.net/tv.php?&pos=28.2E&...

but you get alot of that any way.

Don't think you can even get it on Freesat from Sky only Freeview.

I gave up with TV and Sky many years ago!

I only spend my time and money on dvd's for my plasmas these days. Quality over quantity!

I set the V+ box to record the stuff I want to watch and then watch it the next day instead, meaning I can fast forward through the ad breaks in seconds. Hardly ever watch live TV anymore.

As for freesat, take a look at Humax kit, they do a freesat reciever with built in hard drive recording.

The thinking man records most of his stuff in advance on Sky+ and watches it later, thus allowing him to fast fprward through all the adverts.

As mentioned, just record, then watch it 1hr later.

A 1hr show will equal 45mins.

I invariably just mute the TV when adverts come on. There are so many asinine adverts these days.

My current blood boiler is the stupid voiceover they insist on having on film adverts. FFS get a strepsil. rolleyes

Indeed, or you don't even need to do that. Very often if I want to watch a 9pm program I will start watching it at 9.15 and by the time I get to the end I've pretty much caught up real time.

I've got a PH A110, brilliant bit of kit that I am just beginning to use in anger (redecorating house that I'm moving into so all the A/V stuff is literally just going in now).

But, I don't know anything about RSS feeds. How do I work it, specifically through the Popcorn?

You need Sky+ for that.

The VAST majority of people plonk themselves down in front of the TV and let the content wash over them

ads and all....thankfully for me.... ;-)

You think the advert breaks here are bad? Try Greece... I timed it on one occasion - eighteen whole minutes, which I will never get back.
