Hi,

I'm looking for a basic but decent quality freeview set-top box. The Philips DTR220 one I had has lost several channels after the big retune and according to other reviews on the net is generally poor so I want to replace it.

I dont need HD/DVD recording or anything fancy, just a working STB for about £30 or less.

Thanks.

Did you get all the Freeview channels before the retune?

Have you checked what you should be able to recieve using the postcode checker?

If you couldn't receive all channels before the retune then you probably won't get the missing channels back by buying a different STB

It probably won't sort the channel problem out, but it might be worth checking the firmware is up to date... Most of the bad reviews point to the box freezing every few days IIRC, and I was thoroughly unimpressed by mine for that reason (picture quality etc. seems spot on)... An over the air update came along over the summer (dated sometime in July I think) and mine hasn't frozen since!

Yes we have 2 other DTVs and they get all the channels with good quality.

Is there any way to force a firmware update?

I got woken up in the middle of the night by that bloody annoying blue power LED (my only other issue with the thing!) flashing when mine was updating itself, but the box can be forced to scan for a firmware update from the menu, however...

I presume (I'm not expert on DTV!) that the update has to be being broadcast via DTV at the time... there a broadcast schedule available here smile

Try doing a scan with the aerial input lead disconnected (probably easier to pull it out of the wall if there's a socket). This will wipe everything out, then plug it back in and do another scan.

Ive done a "reset to factory settings" several times which clears all channels and does a rescan.
