Is Blu Ray worth the Extra Premium?
Discussion
I have been looking at Blu Ray for a couple of months now... But i am still not 100% convinced...
I have only have a 720p Plasma, But plans for a 1080p Projector later next year.
Can blu ray really justify £17.99 for a Film Release when compared to 9.99 for the same in DVD format.
Also My last query is what would be the quality difference of a Stand alone Blue Ray player v a PC based Blu Ray player.. As i have encoded most of my DVDs to the Media Centre, and would be easy to add the Blu Ray to this rather for £40 rather than a £200 Standalone unit

As to the quality: Hell yes. Any film that's been mastered properly looks stunning in 1080p
You don't have to buy them. I have a Lovefilm subscription that I use exclusively for Blu-Rays. If I like them enough I'll buy them.
I can't comment on your plan to stream them... You'd need decent kitto do them justice, unless you've got a high quality sound card the sound might be lacking for example but I'm sure you could get comparable results from a PC. With Sony blu ray players down to £130 I'm not sure that it'll be more economical though.

Absolutely worth it.. more so if your going huge screen projector.
my projector is a few years old now (720p/1080i) but the difference in quality is exagerated far more when blown up to your bigger screens - mine is 80" i think.
but watching StandardDef DVD's to then switch on BluRay the difference is enormous.. you need to see it to believe it really.
Even on my 720p projector everything (and i mean everything) is crystal clear so if your going 1080p projector then BluRay has to be a must.
I forget what move i was watching recently but part of it was in a control room and i could read all the labels to the buttons, read the text on the screens around the control room etc.. was amazing and just made you think you were actually there rather than watchign a SD dvd where you can see things labelled/on screens but you dont actually know what those say or what the screens are showing etc.

I think you hit the nail on the head - I've found the increase in quality to make a film far more immersive - almost 3D like.my projector is a few years old now (720p/1080i) but the difference in quality is exagerated far more when blown up to your bigger screens - mine is 80" i think.
