how much to pay for a decent 37" LCD telly?

Not an LCD, however I can thoroughly recommend the Panny 37X10 Plasma. I've got one and love it, currently available for under £500 and has a very good reputation in the industry.
Price is in the right sort of ballpark so that will go at the top of the list, any other recommendations?I've very happy with the picture quality on my 37" 5 series Samsung (LE37A558 I think), however if you run the audio through an analogue speaker system you might want to avoid Samsung, as apparently they're renown for having a delay between the digital picture and analogue audio. A mate has the same speaker system and Virgin box as me and doesn't get the same issue with his Panasonic TV. If you use the TV speakers or have an amp connected via HDMI or Optical then I think they're very good for the money.

My folks have got one of these TV's and are very happy with it, much better quality picture than my old Hitachi 32" LCD, so was thinking of getting one too. Regarding the delay, do you mean there is a picture delay on the digital signal ? I would be running it from an external freeview receiver/recorder with audio from that to an analogue amp system..
...yet Sony tend to get highly rated and most of thier kit is made by Samsung.
Re my delay issue.
Virgin V+ box connected to TV via HDMI, and V+ to analogue surround sound system via RCA (the white and red phono loads). If I have both the TV speakers and the surround sound on there's a noticable echo that I don't get if I connect V+ TV via SCART. Assumed this is due to a processing delay somewhere so connected the surround sound to the phono outs on the TV but stillg et the same delay, so the phono out's aren't seeing the same signal as the TV speaker, which seems a little silly.
Picture quality is way better than the competition though having looked at the equivilent priced offerings from Panasonic and others.
Worth taking a look at this chart to see if it's worth going to 1080.

I wouldn't see the difference between 1080 and 720 at the distance I sit from the telly, but I ended up going with the 1080 to get a third HDMI port and a VGA (or whatever the computer one's called) connector.

I'm delighted with my final choice in this thread: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
