I was wondering if the latest Plasma sets have gotten rid of the age old problem of IR and screen burn?

Do you still have to be very careful for the first couple of hundred hours?

Or has new software fixed most of these issues?

Are there certain manufacturers whose TV's are more likely to suffer from problems like these?

The cheaper ones still suffer badly but you do get what you pay for.

A lot of commercial users of plasma TVs are changing to LCDs. For instance, railway information and also betting shops.

I've been researching this as I'm in the market for a new TV.

Apparently, new technology on 'quality' TVs has pretty well eliminated IR. Looking at techie posts about a Panasonic and it gets great reviews.

For static information like railway and airport time tables plasma will eventually burn but I'm guessing most users on here it will be for normal home use. With the new Panasonic NeoPDP panels screen retention is vitually illiminated but as has been said earlier a lot of the cheaper panels will still suffer from it as they get to these prices by using OLD technology.

I've got a Pioneer KRP-500A plasma (9th generation Kuro) with all of the optional gadgets turned off and I haven't noticed anything. I've had it since April 2009 and enjoying every minute of it, of which are plenty.

It never was a major problem for home viewing. They are more likely to burn in first 100 hours of use, Other little things i do are press back up on the sky to get the red dot off. I do use pc through mine sometimes even after a few hours no burn. You can get screen memory but that's not permanent. Plasma still much better for tv watching. Pioneer the best if you can still get one. They have pulled out of screen manufacturing
