In-car stereo/sat nav/Bluetooth combo recommendations?
Discussion
Evening All,
I'm looking to upgrade from the original satnav/stereo unit in my car, so I'm looking for recommendations. My thoughts for specifications are the following:
- Good satnav functionality with the ability to update maps (and ideally including Europe).
- Double DIN unit
- Built in hard drive, or the ability to plug in and manage an external one.
- Ideally will play both MP3 and WMA files from said HDD.
- Freeview TV tuner would be nice, but not a deal-breaker.
- Budget of £1k tops, but ideally lower would be nicer.
- DAB would be nice.
- Needs Bluetooth to integrate with my Blackberry. The more integrated, the better.
So, any thoughts?

I've been really impressed with JVC as an alternative to the usual Pioneer/Alpine units.

I've recently had a Kenwood DNX7240BT fitted into my Forester and I'm very pleased with it.

My local car audio specialist supplied and fitted, including all the necessary wiring loom adaptors for just over £1000.

Hi, have either of you connected these to a large cap USB storage device? I want to go down the same route using a minimum of 32GB but ideally larger USB stick or similar, but gather the browsing/loading times on a music library can be an issue with the higher caps.http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/jvc-kw-nt1.html

I have a JVC unit ( KD- AVX40 I think ) that is really good to use and sounds much better than expected. I have the optional DAB unit installed and it is the best DAB interface I have ever seen, way better than any stand alone Hi-Fi unit or portable.
The uit has bluetooth ( which works well with my phone and MP3 player ) and a USB input. I only run the USB on a couple of 8gb sticks but they load pretty quickly - twice as long as a CD perhaps.
All in I am very happy , the only downside is I would rather have a dial for the volume than the touchscreen. I find my self using the remote most of the time.
