Cheap speaker wire for rear satalites? Ok?
Discussion
Ages ago i ran cheap wire from my TV, behind the skirting, to behind my sofa. I am now wiring my Quad L-ite 2 set up and have decent wire for the fronts and the sub but could i get away with cheapo for the rears? If i can i can use the existing...otherwise i'll have to run new stuff and tack it on the skirting (which looks cack)
I would wager, if you had both in in a blind test you would not be able to tell the difference at all.
It is slightly different for the fronts because you can eek out more detail from the source, but in comparison there is a lot less detail to the rear speakers.
I would say that even if you take the money out of it, having the cables hidden if of more benefit than you would get from a change.

excellent - just what i wanted to hear!
last question.....i am mounting the rears about 1.5m up the wall and the existing wires end at the skirting - so i will add a bit of my sexy wire to get up the the satellites. Is there a "done" way of joining wire or do i just coil each end together and make a good connection?

I would do a proper splice, ie loop the bare end of one wire, loop the other wire through it, and solder it properly. COver with electrical tape. You'll only get buzzes and crackles if you try and do it by simply twisting, and you don't want bare ends touching and shorting your amp.last question.....i am mounting the rears about 1.5m up the wall and the existing wires end at the skirting - so i will add a bit of my sexy wire to get up the the satellites.
