I should be receive my lovely spangly new 42G10 this Friday, and although I won't have much time, I intend to have it ready to watch the singapore grand prix on Sunday!

Anyway, I've seen mention elsewhere that people run in their TVs so to speak (it's at the back of my mind, and I can't think why). Is there something I should / should not do from the very first turn-on? I'll read the instructions, obviously, but I'm excited so wanted to ask something hehe

Thanks!

slightly interested in this.....had my 50"g10 a week now and not given much thought to it beyond making sure the kids didnt play games for 5 hours solid. I figure its like a car....dont be mental and its fine but theres still folk out there who like to do it by the book.

Just keep checking the oil, and don't go past channel 4 until you've watched 13 hours of Eastenders.

Just watch it... it will be fine!

I try and advise customers not to run it for the first few hours with static Sky type logos on..i havent seen any serious issues for over 5 years however. Just whack it on!

It used to be recommended to lower the contrast setting to limit peak whites during the first 100 hours or so. I don't know if this is still necessary, but I did suggest that my sister did this with her new plasma (LG) on the input she uses for the Nintendo Wii incase of static images....figured it shouldn't do any harm and she reckoned the image was still plenty bright enough even with it turned way down (haven't seen it myself as I don't live nearby).

I think many TVs are delivered with the picture set to Dynamic (which is generally how they're displayed in places like Currys). This makes the colours too bold & cartoonish. So the first thing you should do is make sure it's set to Normal (or whatever the equivalent is on your TV), then tweak the colour/brightness/contrast slightly if you feel it necessary.
