Having SKY HD fitted on wed (already have sky +)

Does the "fitter" need to do much? I dont really want him messing around my nice neat set up so can i just ask him to plug the HD box into the sat cable, a plug socket and an HDMI into the side of the TV and plonk thebox on a coffee table next to the TV....just so he can see it works - and then i'll install it later under the TV and route the HDMI through the amp, etc, etc with the optical cable etc

Also - does the HD box come with HDMI leads or do i need to buy one (i have a spare optical but used up my HDMI leads on games consoles!)

Installer has very little to do, as you describe really. My HD box came with an HDMI cable. My HD box also has a co-ax and optical out for the digital signal to the amplifier/processor

Good stuff.

What's best for the audio into the amp? Optical or coax?

They have exactly the same signal through them so it dont matter, just depends on what spare inputs you have. Most people go for optical because it has a snazzzy red light wink. Dont forget to change the audio output setting on the sky box from Stereo to DD5.1.

Wifey called.....all fitted!

Now, the old sky + box has a few shows on the hard drive still....can i plug that in with a scart to the telly and watch those - even thought the new HD box is plugged into the dish? (in otherwords, does a sky+ hardrive work if the only cables are power and scart?_

there was another thread with the same question, some people say it works other say their hard drives were wiped, you'll have to try it and see.

My understanding was that 'non-premium' content (ie anything but sport and movies) can still be accessed by simply re-connecting the box. Sport and movie content requires a valid viewing card and the card needs to be 'paired' to that box.
