Ive just upgraded my Onkyo DVD player to a Sony bluray.

With the Onkyo i connected it to the TV directly with component and am now running the bluray directly with HDMI because my Linn 5103 preamp/processor only supports S-Video.

Ive also had to resort to PCM with blurays that don't have dolby digital 5.1 because the 5103 seems to struggle with HD DTS even though it handles normal DTS.

Ideally im after a preamp/processor that can cope with these more up-to-date formats, both HDMI and TrueHD DTS.

What can people recommend?

Not sure of price or availability, but the Arcam AV888 might be worth you looking into? I also understood that there was supposed to be an Onkyo preamp/processor due out soon, if not already (though it might not be up to Linn standards for stereo music).

There is already an Onkyo processor available. The 5103 only supports DTS, and it will be getting a max bit rate stream from the BR player. It doesn't support the HD codec variants.

I would get a home demo if you can, because when I demmed the Onkyo against my oldskool Meridian Processor, we found the Meridian to be better using Max bit rate DTS against the Onkyo using DTS-MA
