I seem to vaguely remember someone telling me that flat screen tv's need remain upright whilst in transit. But I cannot for the life of me remember whether or not this was for Plasma or LCD tv's. Moving to a new flat tomorrow so any advice would be much appreciated because laying it flat would solve my logistics nightmare!

Bloke at John Lewis probably a self proclaimed expert. Did he say why?

Bought a lovely 32" Samsung LCD from John Lewis yesterday and the nice man laid it down flat in the boot of my car where it spent a good 8 hrs. Was fine when we got home and set it up. Plasmas have gas in them. Can't see a good reason to not lie an LCD flat.

The main issue in transport is cracking the glass on the front of the screen with undue stresses with plasma's. Face down (with the face wrapped in a blanket or similiar) would be the better solution than face up, probably.

I can't see a reason why an LCD shouldn't be carefully transported flat.

NB: as this is the internet if it breaks it ain't our fault............

I moved 2 LCDs 300 miles flat down in in the back of the car with no problems at all.

Not sure about plasmas.

Being the paranoid person I am, in a stroke of manly genius I managed to arrange everything so it managed to fit in the boot of a Cupra R with the TV still staying upright. Wonder if having the seats down is going to give me a few extra horsepower for the blat down the M4 scratchchin

Quite possibly - but you may have ruined your weight distribution by having that LCD upright. Be careful on those corners!

Hate to burst your bubble Emeye but LCDs like Plasmas should alway be transported upright this is
because both have unsupported panels and if you go over a big bump the panel can fracture, and
believe me after selling thousands of these things over the last 15 years i've seen it happen on
several occasions, it's very rare but it does happen.

Any plasma or LCD can be damaged if transported flat on its back. If the car jolts up and down in transit, the screen can bounce and crack. I've been told this numerous times before by experts.

We transport Plasma's everyday they go in the vans upside down on there ends screen down screen up how ever we can get them to fit and not had one break yet (15 years)

How ever they are in flight cases and protected from things falling onto them. If its a one off and there is no chance of something hitting the screen I would have no hesitation in doing it.

Your more likely dropping it walking to the car/ moving it hehe seen that happen loads.....

PS taking no responsibility for any damages etc etc smile
