As above, how do you guys with high end audio equipment insure it?

I rent a cottage & trying to insure my stuff is proving difficult.
I.E. my turntable, arm & stylus are 3 separate components, but most
companies have a ceiling value on one item of around £1000. My problem
is that each of those components are well over that ammount on their
own, yet if my turntable is damaged it is likely the arm & stylus will
be as well. All the companies I have spoken to thus far are unwilling to
insure on that basis, so does anyone have a solution?

Brook.

Google Hiscox. They will understand your needs. They were recommended to me on the Naim board and have been insuring my contents ever since. They are a little more expensive than the insurance "sheds" but can you imagine a conversation about a Lapis Lazuli with a retard at Elephant.

Hiscox will insure single items up to £15,000 per item without having to list them all. Just make sure your contents insurance total covers all of your items... wink

Hiscox aren't the only company who do specialist insurance, or just high value items. Shop around; I'm with NFU (because my house is thatched and they're good for that) and they cover high value stuff too.

Hope I never have to claim wink Always discuss with my insurers, the kit is listed at value where over £1K Do they understand ?? No idea. However the most likely loss would be from fire!! I struggle to lift most of my kit it's not likely to go to an opertunistic thief smile
I have battled over recent years to get sufficient cover for contents, ironic considering that they say they will not pay out if you are under insured.
An essential , but a rip off, pray you do not need to claim

I'm with M&S on their premium policy to cover my bikes. They will cover upto £4000 globally at no extra cost smile

They also accept photos, in lieu of receipts, if something happened.

My insurance is brokered through LLoyds.

Standard insurance policies not only usually have an item limit, but also terms as to what percentage of what is insured are 'high value items'.

Usually that is about 1/3.

My kit is specified on the insurance as individual items.

Just wanted to add - I have just cancelled the Lloyds insurance.

Just got a quote from the Hiscox site - and my premium has reduced from £600 to £283!

The killer is the £15,000 limit for each item - thats included, and I was paying a premium for that before. Also the level of cover at Hiscox includes accidental damage, home business coverage, and even items outside the home *as standard*.

Also the included is family legal coverage, and as long as you have valid motor insurance for the vehicle you are driving, legal costs if you are prosecuted for something whilst driving!

Also a home emergency service that you would pay £15 a month for by itself.

Absolutely awesome level of cover!

I've saved £320 a year! A virtual beer is in order!

Thanks for the replies guys, I will check them all out.

I did actually try Hiscox earlier today, when I filled out the online form they were going to give me a call back within 30 minutes. Not heard a peep from them!!

Try Greenbee (John Lewis) and you'll find that it is unlimited and a lot cheaper than Hiscox. You don't have to specify anything seperately.
