I have the following set up at home :

Panasonic 42 inch plasma TH 42PW4 bought 2002
Denon AVC A1 SR receiver again owned since 2002
Denon DVD 2900 DVD Player
V+ Box
DLink Media Lounge circa 2004
XBOX 360 Elite
Sonos System

I am happy with the Plasma and the amp and would rather not change these especially as the Plasma is installed into a custom recess with all the cables hidden away.

I would like to put a NAS type unit in my lounge to avoid having to run our desktop PC to stream music to the SONOS. Secondly I would like to somehow connect the NAS/Media PC to my existing system to allow me to view pictures and video on my Plasma.

In the past I bought the DLink media lounge to achieve this, but I found the product to be full of bugs and issues which made it not much fun to use, and of course it still means I have to run the desktop PC to stream to it.

Given the age of the equipment I have and the lack of HDMI/Ethernet connections on the AMP and Plasma can I hook up a NAS/Media PC to achieve this ?

Maybe you should be looking into a NAS device that offers some sort of streaming support built in so that you don't need a PC on all the time. I have a Buffalo Terastation which allows streaming to my Pinnacle Showcenter which is generally stable in use. The Pinnacle showcenter I have will work wireless as well, so that my NAS can use wired ethernet in another room.

The only other option is a small laptop running media center. You can get some lower power PCs as well, like a Shuttle. The issue you have here is the lack of HDMI. You could have a look at keene electronics (have a search on the web). They offer all sorts of video equipment which should allow you to convert DVI/HDMI to component or something more suitable for your screen, although it might not be a cheap option.
